My Favorites from 2016

I did this last year and I really wanna do it for last year too, even though it’s already mid-Feb. XD What were your favorites this year? These are mine!

Favorite Movie

My favorite movie from the whole year was Captain America: Civil War. It’s probably been the biggest payoff movie to a film franchise that I’ve followed or watched in my life. All those superheroes all coming together like that, for one of biggest most enjoyable fight scenes ever…plus all the emotional punches and clashes…it was perfect. As a Marvel fan who’s invested money and time to follow this series, I felt very much rewarded!

Runners Up: Deadpool, Passengers, Finding Dory, Arrival, Doctor Strange, Zootopia.

Favorite Music

lindsey-stirling-brave-enough_fotor_collage

Susumu Hirasawa, Sia, Lindsey Stirling, Odesza just scratch the surface of all the music that became my new favorite this year; I introduced myself to Madonna too, and select pop songs throughout the year.

In the playlist below, I compiled 30 songs that I keenly remember listening to this past year,or that remind me of something that was going on when I discovered it. There’s a strong memory imprinted on each of them. You can read about them on the playlist on YouTube if you’d like. Feel free to scroll through it and help yourself to maybe some new music (there’s soundtracks and all sorts of songs sprinkled in there!)

Favorite Anime

I began watching JoJo way back at the beginning of the year. I watched three full seasons by April to watch the new season weekly with James (it was one of his favorite stories and I said as a Christmas present I would catch up and watch with him.) Wow, was it worth it. I watched this show weekly from April alllllll the way to December and it was flipping awesome. Brilliant genre twists, creativity out of this world, with truly lovable, quirky characters who sneaked into my heart: it was anime of the year for me and James for sure!

Runners Up: Mob Psycho 100, KonoSuba, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, The Diasterous Life of Saiki K., Flip Flappers, Sweetness and Lightning, Orange, ReLife.

These are some of my favorite Instagram posts; they capture some big moments, as well as some small ones that I’d nearly forgotten!

PINTEREST

I love my “Me” Pinterest board; I’ve been art, quotes, and images that I feel truly capture an esences of who I am. It’s been wonderful for self-exploration and identifying with my core personality and how I process or think of things! ❤

I made this to collect all the reasons why distance doesn’t matter when it comes to love. ❤

This is of a story I want to write one day; scraps of the plot are scrapping together, and I have magazine clippings from ages ago that have the same vibe for the same story. I decided to make a board for it. ❤

Final Thoughts

This year I did so much! I’ll be recapping some of the things I accomplished in an upcoming post soon in that regard. But looking back over this post, I already really appreciate all the little memories social media saved for me. Plus, I discovered some of the best music ever this past year, and CIVIL WAR WAS JUST AMAZING. xD So, what were your favorite things this year?

My 10 Favorite TV Shows

Ok, I’m not saying these shows are necessarily the greatest in the whole world (but this is definitely is a personal list by me, Jamie, so to me they kinda are.) But I AM SAYING that I get the most joy, feel the most excitement, laugh the hardest, and rewatch these the most, out of just about any other TV show I’ve seen. That’s why they’re my favorites!

So, here’s my top 10 favorite tv series (that exclude anime.) I love so many other shows (anyone want an “Honorable Mentions” post?) that this was hard to boil down at first. But let’s give it a try. 😉

10. Castle

Castle: Crime Comedy Drama, 8 Seasons, 2009-2016.
I’ve seen the first seven seasons and I loved every minute of it. Crime plus comedy plus drama plus Nathan Fillion? What’s not to love?! I’ve rewatched different parts of this series multiple times to prepare for each new season and it just never gets old. Castle and Becket are just one of those wonderful peanut butter and jelly duos, with such wonderful development. Then there’s fun engaging murder mysteries and drama galore. Add in a super duper lovable cast of secondary characters, and you have one of my favorite TV shows of all time!! ❤ And did I mention Nathan Fillion? ^_^ He’s every writer and like every ENFP; so I relate and enjoy him greatly!

9. Family Guy

Family Guy: Animated Sitcom, 14 Seasons, 1999-Present.
It’s my guilty pleasure show, get over it. XD 😉 But seriously, I actually really love Family Guy more than is good for me. Stewie Griffin is easily one of my favorite fictional characters of all time too. Despite the fart jokes and some idiocy, the early seasons were actually genuinely funny and even smart which is what hooked me in the first place. And bow to Seth MacFarlane: so many different voices–would you believe Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, and Brian Griffin were all him?! Sure, the show sometimes has tasteless jokes and is sometimes more liberal than I care for: it’s not for everyone and I don’t condone everything that’s in it. But Family Guy brought me a lot of joy when I need a good laugh and it still makes me laugh. Overall, it’s funny, it’s stupid, it’s even self-aware, but I love it for all those reasons.

8. The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead: Horror Drama, 6 Seasons, 2010-Present.
Oh wow yes. I remember catching up with the first three seasons and loving every minute of it. I’ve been a faithful viewer every year since. It made me a zombie fan, while a redneck with wings on his back stole my heart. The thing that I’ve always loved about The Walking Dead is that it’s more than guts and blood and zombie gore. It’s a story about people; survivors, people from all walks of life banding together to fight the dead…and the those more dangerous than the dead. The show has its lovers and haters, but I definitely love this show. It’s just one that I will always take the time to watch every night it comes out so it’s not spoiled. I’m incredibly invested in the characters who’ve survived the passing of time. I love it!

7. Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey: Historical Period Drama, 6 Seasons, 2010-2015.
Just like Castle, I’ve rewatched seasons multiple times as new seasons were released. It’s incredibly addicting and enjoyable, full of amazing dialogue and memorable, loveable, and even incredibly dislikeable characters, ever. I’m not a period geek, but this is definitely one of the best dramas I’ve ever seen hands down. While it had it’s ups and downs, its still one of the very best out there. It even had a solid final season which I was very pleased with! It’s a show my mom and I can talk about forever, analyzing the characters and their many choices. Due to it being so addicting and rewatchable, I’m sure I’ll be replaying it beginning to end for many many years to come!

6. Agatha Christie’s Poirot

Agatha Christie’s Poirot: British Mystery Drama, Original Release 1989-2013.
Yes, this show was created over 24 year span and wow it’s wonderful. Nearly every single novel and short story written by Agatha Christie about the famous detective Hercule Poirot was adapted. David Suchet as Poirot is stunning. I’ve loved this show since my early teen years! Poirot and his companions Captain Hastings, Cheif Inspector Japp, and Miss Lemon, feel like actual family members to me; uncles and aunts whom I feel safe and happy with. The show’s early seasons are hour length episodes of all sorts of crimes with some wonderful humor. As it progressives, it gets more dark as Poirot ages, and we loose some of our main cast. But it’s still wonderful, with even a good conclussion. I can’t recommend it more; I rewatch different episodes all the time because it’s a comfort to me. Poirot is my family. ❤

5. Modern Family

Modern Family: Sitcom Mockumentary, 7 Seasons, 2009-Present.
We’re in the top five; the best of the best and yet five seems too low to rank Modern Family at. My family and I have rewatched this series so many times AND WOW, IT HAS NEVER ONCE GOTTEN LESS FUNNY. Hands down on the best comedies there is. So many stereotypes turned on their head to create such real, relatable, HYSTERICAL characters. Gloria is one of my role models for womanhood, and Mitchel and Cameron are two of the best characters from TV ever. EVER. There are few character duos funnier than them. The show is relatable and loveable and DID I SAY FUNNY? Especially those first four seasons: such gold! This show will be a favorite of mine for the rest of my life because it’s never not funny, no matter how many times I watch it. And it always makes me happy. ❤

4. Sherlock

Sherlock: Crime Drama, 3 Seasons, 2010-Present.
This was my favorite show for a very long time and I still hold it near and dear to my heart. Sherlock Holmes: he’s my favorite fictional character of all time and has been for most of my life. I’m incredibly protective of him and Doyle’s original stories. So, BBC’s Sherlock is one of the few adaptations of him that I actually love; there is so much homage to the original works, and the character was adapted well to fit modern times. And Martin Freeman as John Watson is phenomenal; John is such a hugely important character to these stories (the main narrator in the books) and Martin and the writers nail him. The mysteries are fantastic, the soundtrack amazing, the humor wonderful; it’s a treat of a TV show and we’re so blessed to get a new season every two years. And as an intimate Sherlock Holmes fan, this show leaves I’m a proud and happy fan. ❤

3. Frasier

Frasier: Sitcom, 11 Seasons, 1993-2004.
You should have noticed by now how important and highly esteemed I hold my comedies. Frasier is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen:  I’ve rewatched it in its entirety three solid times and its yet to be any less funny. It’s one of the most consistently funny series’ you’ll be lucky to find, full of intelligent and witty dialogue delivered by the most loveable, hysterical cast of characters ever. Sometimes I want to just move to Seattle and become a part of the Crane family even though I don’t drink coffee and wine and listen to opera. XD Niles Crane, especially, is one of the most brilliantly enjoyable, hysterical, and loveable characters I’ve ever witnessed on my screen. I can’t recommend this show more highly! It’s brought me so much joy and it’s one of my happy places. There’s just nothing quite like an episode of Frasier! It’ll FOREVER be one of my favorite shows! ❤

2. Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones: Fantasy Drama, 6 Seasons, 2011-Present.
I FREAKING LOVE THIS SHOW, OK?! With a passion. And it’s story and characters were so worth watching around all the mature sexual content. It’s just one of those stories where you can truly fear for your favorite character’s life every episode, which I think is so rare. The twists and shocks, the fantasy, the drama, the death, the hope: Game of Thrones is so much. As a writer, it’s something I wish I could write. Every year, one of the biggest highlights for me is when a new season comes out. If I were to ever get a quote tattoo, that quote would come from the mouth of Tyrian Lannister–that should say a lot right there. As a lover of excellent storytelling, solid character development, and dragons, this will forever remain one of my most favorite stories of all time. It’s up there with epic sagas like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. I have such high hopes for the final two seasons! ❤

1. The Office.

The Office: Sitcom Mockumentary, 9 Seasons, 2005-2013.
Truly, on its own, this is a brilliantly hysterical mockumentary; it’s genuinely one of the funniest shows with one of funniest casts you’ll ever find. But this is number one for a personal reason. This show saved my sanity during one of the darkest times of my life: when I didn’t even feel safe in my own home, I discovered The Office. It gave me laughter, distraction, and amusement that saved me from depression. Of all these shows that I hold so so dearly, The Office rests, and most likely will rest forever, at the top of my list for the joy it gave and still gives me to this day. It never gets old, no matter how many times I watch (as long as I exclude those last two seasons; they don’t exist to me.) Jim and Pam and Dwight and Michael Scott will always be family to me; the whole Office will always be family to me. And without first watching The Office, I wouldn’t even have found Modern Family or my other favorite comedies like Parks and Recreation and Arrested Development and Seinfeld and Fraiser. It brought me so much laughter. There are few things in life I value more than laughter. ❤

Which of my favorite shows have you seen? Do you love them just as much as I do? (and anyone wondering WHY IS BREAKING BAD NOT HERE–that’s because I haven’t finished it yet. XD I promise I will one day.)

Happy Star Wars Day!

tumblr_l51kmiorvt1qzexpio1_500

I’m popping in quick because I can never miss blogging on this day! May the Fourth Be With You! 😉

Star Wars has meant the world to me, from helping me meet my very best friend to learning to be bold on my own, to celebrating the excellent combination that is sci-fi and fantastic story and character development (specifically referring to episodes 4-6.) Chewbacca is still my favorite character and I continue to own all the Darth Vader merchandise in my family. XD While I wasn’t crazy about the new film, I’ll still always love and value what the original trilogy gave me! ❤

So, Happy Star Wars Day to all my geeky friends! ❤

The Soundtrack of my Childhood P1

I thought I’d blog purely for myself tonight. And myself wants to do some heavy tripping on the music/theme songs/sounds of my early childhood and youth. I’ve always loved music, especially the songs that help me retreat to  And how many childhood sounds do you and I possibly share?

One Radio Theme

Rush Limbaugh’s Theme. My parents were listening to Rush everyday even before I was born: so my lunches growing up in the kitchen was to Rush Limbaugh’s voice and theme with peanut butter and jelly. Mom and my sister and I would head bob to this song at the table while we ate. And I remember when I was older, like eight or nine, often holding the kitchen broom like a guitar and air strumming the bristles instead of sweeping. I don’t care if you’re conservative or liberal, but y’all gotta admit that this is an epic theme to hear growing up EVERY DAY. XD

VeggieTales

VeggieTales. My childhood was awesome because of VeggieTales. We sang the songs all the time when I was just three and my sister a year old; I have specific vivid memories connected to the songs above. I love all the old silly songs, you guys. And the stuff mart rap was like pure dope. XD And LarryBoy was my first superhero. Since the entire show is strong in music, it makes sense that many of the early episodes were the background of my entire childhood.

The Busy World of Richard Scarry.

The Busy World of Richard Scarry songs. OH MY GOSH. THIS WAS MY EARLY CHILDHOOD. I WAS TWO OR THREE WHEN I WAS GIVEN VHS TAPES. AND HUCKLE AND LOWLY WHERE THE BROS AND I WILL NEVER HAVE ANYTHING BUT HAPPY FEELS. *pauses to take a chill pill.* But yes, childhood, the happy memories, the many songs: This was my Zootopia, guys.

Disney Songs/Musical Scores

Disney soundtracks. I have very distinct memories of these tracks! I WAS Tigger as a child and I bounced around the living room singing his song. XD The intro for 101 Dalmatians IS BURNED IN MY HEAD–I don’t know why. But it gives me the childhood chills. Any song from the Aristocats is pure childhood, to be honest. XD Little April Showers put me in awe. And The Jungle Book had that mysterious music that always grabbed my attention as the movie started.

Disney Cartoons

Assorted Disney Cartoon scores. I just need to hear the first few brass notes of Donald Duck’s theme to take me alllllll the way back. ❤ Now these cartoons above have very specific melodies that have stuck with me through the years. “It’s a lovely day, Dolores!” Goofy’s whistle in Crazy in the Heat. The little military melody in Whirl Wind. The great musical finale of Toby Tortoise Returns. And the song and piano diddly at the end of Two Chips and A Miss.

The Prince of Egypt

The Prince of Egypt soundtrack. I still count The Prince of Egypt as one of the defining musical moments of my childhood. My family didn’t own it, and I only saw it a few times growing up, but I’ll never forget the first time saw it. The music blew my mind and I was obsessed. I did have a cassette tape of the songs, and I listened to it constantly. Hans Zimmer will always mean the world to me because how seven-year old me felt when I heard his music.

I guess I’m going to stop there for the night; I’ll have to cover video game soundtracks and classical songs some other time. XD How about you guys, what childhood melodies do we have common?

Currently: (it’s a leap day!)

3ae09cf3426b6a400f53df9b5a12f520

Currently listening: “Remember The Time” by the king of pop.

Currently sitting: NOT in a magical swing-set at the top of a pirate ship or a throne of ice cream cones and fudge, so that sucks. 😛 😉 No, I’m in my room at the moment. XD

Currently liking: that MAD MAX: FURY ROAD WON SIX OSCARS LAST NIGHT. YEEEAAAAS, IT TOTALLY DESERVED ALL THE WINS. *climbs on roof and sprays fire from electric guitar.* 😉

Currently drinking: nothing, but what I SHOULD be drinking is water because I didn’t drink enough yesterday.

Currently reading: shame on me, nothing at the moment. I have two books and a manga from the library sitting beside my bed. But I’ve started none of them.

Currently writing: blog posts (specifically a post about The Force Awakens.) I fell out of the habit of blogging and I’m trying to begin more drafts now. I’m revisiting some old novel drafts as well but I haven’t actually written more for them.

Currently watching: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. After putting it on hold for basically a year, I’m going to finish that show soon! I’m also following the Winter seasonal anime shows too, like ErasedShouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, KonoSuba, Grimgar of Fantasy and AshMyriad Colors Phantom World, Gate, and Osomatsu-san. And all the shorts. XD

"Grimgar: Fantasy and Ash"
“Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash”

Currently obsessed with: music…but more specifically, learning about Michael Jackson.  ‘Cause I knew crap about his music. XD After accidentally becoming obsessed with Smooth Criminal last week, I started exploring for more. In turn that led me to reading Wikipedia and watching interviews and his super bowl performance.
I do this every so often: I enjoy learning about parts of pop culture I was completely ignorant about before. It’s fun, especially for musicians who create music I actually like. 😀

Currently tired: from painting the downstairs guest bathroom. While I always like painting, I forget how heavy the paint rollers get after a while. XD  But the bathroom is now a sunshine-y yellow instead of the previous deep blackish-blue! ❤

Currently excited: that I bought my plane ticket for my trip to Georgia this summer! That was actually last week, but I’m still excited! Although the reality of the visit has honestly not quite sunk in yet for me or my best friend. XD

Currently failing: well, actually, I feel pretty good about myself today. I’m not majorly sucking at anything for now. XD I’m still doing good biking to school, I’m keeping on top of my laundry piles and my room, and getting math homework done on time. So yay for me!

7a23c7845085c00d306b637bebf42a37

Currently scaring myself with: the idea of using the bus to get myself down to the big mall. XD I still haven’t gone on any big trips that’s off my normal school bus route yet. The idea is scary, but I totally need to visit the mall for errands and to try to see Deadpool if I can. Maybe I’ll do that this month. XD

Currently wishing: that I could rearrange my room. But alas, I don’t want to spare the extra time or energy. So for now I’m just wishing. LOL XD

Currently praying: for my sister to continue to do be excellent in the military. So proud of her! ❤

So, what’s up with you?! And today’s a leap day, isn’t that awesome! ❤ I want to watch the Modern Family leap day episode today. XD
