2017 Social Media Highlights

I like this post series I do every year! Here are my favorite bits of my social media from last year, as well as some of my favorite media in general from movies to music and more. It was a good year for me!

FAVORITE MOVIE

I’m having a terrible time picking my favorite movie from last year, as I loved quite a few about the same for different reasons. Currently stuck between Baby Driver and Thor: Ragnorak so we’ll go with those. Baby Driver is freaking iconic; it has some of the best sound editings you will EVER see in a film. The soundtrack is LIT. The character Baby is very lovable, and the other characters are colorfully quirky and fun! Plus, very little CGI was used in all the action sequences, which is just awesome. Edger Wright is a freaking KING as a director and always fresh; his three Cornetto films are all in my top fifty films of all time and Baby Driver joins them.

And then there’s Thor: Ragnorak. Best Thor film yet, and somehow managed to be stronger than Spider-Man: Homecoming. Dead hysterical: the humor is just spot on 90 percent of the time. Hulk nearly steals the show, which is pretty hard to do because Chris Hemsworth as Thor is PRETTY DARN GREAT IN THIS FILM. Loki is forever a favorite of mine. And soooo many ICONIC lines I could mention from this film, but my favorite being, “Piss off, ghost!” XD Marvel put out three films in 2017 and they each were better than the last. I thought for sure Spider-Man: Homecoming would be my favorite of the year, but Thor just had to be spectacular.

Runner Ups: Spider-Man Homecoming, Logan, Dunkirk, Kong: Skull Island, War for the Planet of the Apes, The Lego Bat-Man Movie.

FAVORITE MUSIC

Probably the only album that I will clearly remember from 2017 is TAYLOR SWIFT’S REPUTATION ALBUM OH MY GOSH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER NEW LOOK AND SOUND. LIKE I’M NOT EVEN SORRY THAT I’M NOTHING BUT A MAD FANGIRL THESE DAYS, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ALBUM AND TAYLOR HAS ALL MY SUPPORT IN THE WORLD. 😀 😀 😀 ❤ ❤ ❤

Anywho. XD

My new favorite tradition lately is to create a soundtrack of my year once its all over! It was so hard to boil these 35 songs below into that playlist. But there it is. The music that played during my 2017. Some of them aren’t even my absolute favorites–but they hold MEMORIES, so they belong. (You can go to the playlist on my music blog to see my memories for each.)

Some of them take me right back to Dairy Queen, with Matt and Trent and Ashlyn, arguing over what stations to play on that static little radio. Others are songs I discovered and listened on repeat madly throughout the year, either from TV shows and movies or randomly stumbling over them online. Others like Strip That Down and Bad at Love I bellowed with Ashlyn at 1 AM in the morning coming home from Walmart with the windows rolled down. So many memories. (If you’re sensitive at all to the language, not all the music in this playlist is clean, so explore are your own risk. :P)

FAVORITE ANIME

My favorite anime from this year is easily Land of the Lustrous. At the beginning, you’re not sure what the expect–but wow does it deliver. Its been ages since I’ve seen a character go through such a sobering, maturing arc like Phos does. Consequences are real in this anime. Plus the animation is freaking GORGEOUS–like, you can’t tear your eyes away, kind of gorgeous. The world is so unique and slowly explored in an utterly satisfying way. All the characters are lovable or intriguing and feel real. I’m PRAYING we get a second season because dang, I need more. I need more. I need more. Anime of the year, hands down, end of story, wow. Watch it on Amazon Prime haha!

Runners Up: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, March Comes in Like a Lion, Welcome to the Ballroom, KonoSuba S2, Made In Abyss, Scum’s Wish.

I’ve also enjoyed adding gorgeous artwork to this board. I just absolutely adore all the imagery in it. You could call it my whacky zen board. XD

I’ve had my funnies board for ages but now with the Sections optioned I went through and sorted them all and I LOVE my selection. XD You’ve got the classic 2012 stick people memes, historical art funnies, anything fandom related, and my new favorite, relatable retail-fast food employee memes. Love it. XD

FINAL THOUGHTS

I wasn’t quite as active on my some of my social media sights this year, but that’s ok. I worked a lot haha. But I’m thankful for what I have used to save little “screenshots” of my life! Can’t wait to see what I will look back on for 2018! (If you missed seeing my favorite Instagram pictures, those are featured in my post here recapturing my last year and all the work I did lol!)

The Marvel Heroes Movie Tag

Hamlette from Hamlette’s Soliloquy tagged me just the other day to do her very own Marvel Heroes Movie Tag, where we match a movie to marvel hero! Without further ado let’s just jump in!

Captain America: Name a movie with a “fish out of water” theme. One of my top ten favorites, Hot Fuzz! Highly ambitious London cop transferred to a small sleepy village in the countryside…but how sleepy is it really?

Thor: Name a movie about learning to use power for the good of others. Kiki’s Delivery Service. A young witch coming to age strikes out on her own with the purpose of growing into her powers and using them responsibly living in a civilian world.

Iron Man: Name a movie about an inventor.  For some reason, I’m scrambling to think of a film, so I’m just gonna say A Beautiful Mind, which is about a brilliant mathematician. Great film with a great soundtrack.

Incredible Hulk: Name a movie with a main character who has two sides to them.  Clue, for absolutely every single character in the entire thing. Its a masterpiece. XD

Hawkeye: Name a movie that involves archery. Hamelette already said The Many Adventures of Robin Hood, which is the best and most ultimate Robin Hood movie ever! But for the sake of something new, let’s say The Hunger Games.

Black Widow: Name a movie about spies. Spy with Melissa McCarthy. I’m sorry, but this movie actually really made me laugh! McCarthy is a great comedian!

Black Panther: Name a movie about royalty.  Ben-Hur. The story of a royal Jewish family’s fall but also ultimate redemption. Honestly, its one of the best epics ever told on the big screen ever.

Vision: Name a movie involving androids or robots.  The Iron Giant! Finally got around to seeing that movie and wow! Way better than expected! I can see why it is so highly thought of. Real Steel and The Terminator and Transformers could also go with this genre.

Spider-man: Name a movie about teens. Say Anything. Big favorite of mine because the two main teenagers depicted in this film actually feel real, with a depth of purpose and emotion to them that I just loved.

Ant-Man: Name a movie about thieves.  Inception. Heck yes. Is there anything more whacky than stealing through shared dreaming?! Now You See Me and Die Hard also come to mind.

Scarlet Witch: Name a movie with powerful female character.  Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi because PRINCESS LEIA. IS. THE. GIRL. Smart, quick-thinking, strong, diplomatic: one of the most powerful female characters ever.

Dr. Strange: Name a movie where a character learns to be a better person. The one that comes to mine is John Wayne’s Rio Bravo, my favorite western. Character Dude, played Dean Martin, follows an entire path of facing his problem with drink and learning how to take control over it and becoming a man again. Love that movie so much!

Falcon: Name a movie with a great sidekick. My Neighbor Totoro, because how is there any sidekick better than Totoro himself? Also, that movie makes me cry every time.

Loki: Name a movie with an antagonist/villain who steals the show.  Let’s say Toy Story, where Woody basically plays the villain but completely steals the show as the main character!

Agent Coulson: Name a movie where an ordinary character faces an extraordinary situation.  Shaun of the Dead! Shaun’s mundane world is slowly interrupted by the zombie apocalypse, and when he at last notices, he decides to take it all on to go rescue his mum and girlfriend. One of my favorite movies ever.

Peter Quill: Name a movie with a character who is more than they appear to be.  Finding Nemo. This is referring to BOTH Nemo and Marlin!

Gamora: Name a movie with a character who changes allegiances. Thelma and Louise; we watch Thelma change from being shackled to toxicity and abuse to choosing her own form of personal freedom and herself. Freaking love it.

Drax: Name a movie with a physically powerful character.  Rocky, of course!! Of course I love Rocky for so much more than his physique, but dang, he’s awesomely strong. Or, for the fun of it, we can also say the movie Rambo First Blood for this one as well.

Groot: Name a movie with a character who doesn’t talk much. Mad Max: Fury Road. Max says very very little the whole movie or something like that? Legit great facial/grunt acting from Tom Hardy in that film, he didn’t need to speak a whole movie to make us love his Max. ❤

Rocket: Name a movie with a talking animal.  It was only for like 2 minutes, but there’s a talking animal in Men In Black–first film I thought of. XD

I hereby tag the following bloggers: Trekking Through Hobbit Holes and Wanderer’s Pen.

My Favorites from 2016

I did this last year and I really wanna do it for last year too, even though it’s already mid-Feb. XD What were your favorites this year? These are mine!

Favorite Movie

My favorite movie from the whole year was Captain America: Civil War. It’s probably been the biggest payoff movie to a film franchise that I’ve followed or watched in my life. All those superheroes all coming together like that, for one of biggest most enjoyable fight scenes ever…plus all the emotional punches and clashes…it was perfect. As a Marvel fan who’s invested money and time to follow this series, I felt very much rewarded!

Runners Up: Deadpool, Passengers, Finding Dory, Arrival, Doctor Strange, Zootopia.

Favorite Music

lindsey-stirling-brave-enough_fotor_collage

Susumu Hirasawa, Sia, Lindsey Stirling, Odesza just scratch the surface of all the music that became my new favorite this year; I introduced myself to Madonna too, and select pop songs throughout the year.

In the playlist below, I compiled 30 songs that I keenly remember listening to this past year,or that remind me of something that was going on when I discovered it. There’s a strong memory imprinted on each of them. You can read about them on the playlist on YouTube if you’d like. Feel free to scroll through it and help yourself to maybe some new music (there’s soundtracks and all sorts of songs sprinkled in there!)

Favorite Anime

I began watching JoJo way back at the beginning of the year. I watched three full seasons by April to watch the new season weekly with James (it was one of his favorite stories and I said as a Christmas present I would catch up and watch with him.) Wow, was it worth it. I watched this show weekly from April alllllll the way to December and it was flipping awesome. Brilliant genre twists, creativity out of this world, with truly lovable, quirky characters who sneaked into my heart: it was anime of the year for me and James for sure!

Runners Up: Mob Psycho 100, KonoSuba, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, The Diasterous Life of Saiki K., Flip Flappers, Sweetness and Lightning, Orange, ReLife.

I love my “Me” Pinterest board; I’ve been art, quotes, and images that I feel truly capture an esences of who I am. It’s been wonderful for self-exploration and identifying with my core personality and how I process or think of things! ❤

I made this to collect all the reasons why distance doesn’t matter when it comes to love. ❤

This is of a story I want to write one day; scraps of the plot are scrapping together, and I have magazine clippings from ages ago that have the same vibe for the same story. I decided to make a board for it. ❤

Final Thoughts

This year I did so much! I’ll be recapping some of the things I accomplished in an upcoming post soon in that regard. But looking back over this post, I already really appreciate all the little memories social media saved for me. Plus, I discovered some of the best music ever this past year, and CIVIL WAR WAS JUST AMAZING. xD So, what were your favorite things this year?

My 10 Favorite TV Shows

Ok, I’m not saying these shows are necessarily the greatest in the whole world (but this is definitely is a personal list by me, Jamie, so to me they kinda are.) But I AM SAYING that I get the most joy, feel the most excitement, laugh the hardest, and rewatch these the most, out of just about any other TV show I’ve seen. That’s why they’re my favorites!

So, here’s my top 10 favorite tv series (that exclude anime.) I love so many other shows (anyone want an “Honorable Mentions” post?) that this was hard to boil down at first. But let’s give it a try. 😉

10. Castle

Castle: Crime Comedy Drama, 8 Seasons, 2009-2016.
I’ve seen the first seven seasons and I loved every minute of it. Crime plus comedy plus drama plus Nathan Fillion? What’s not to love?! I’ve rewatched different parts of this series multiple times to prepare for each new season and it just never gets old. Castle and Becket are just one of those wonderful peanut butter and jelly duos, with such wonderful development. Then there’s fun engaging murder mysteries and drama galore. Add in a super duper lovable cast of secondary characters, and you have one of my favorite TV shows of all time!! ❤ And did I mention Nathan Fillion? ^_^ He’s every writer and like every ENFP; so I relate and enjoy him greatly!

9. Family Guy

Family Guy: Animated Sitcom, 14 Seasons, 1999-Present.
It’s my guilty pleasure show, get over it. XD 😉 But seriously, I actually really love Family Guy more than is good for me. Stewie Griffin is easily one of my favorite fictional characters of all time too. Despite the fart jokes and some idiocy, the early seasons were actually genuinely funny and even smart which is what hooked me in the first place. And bow to Seth MacFarlane: so many different voices–would you believe Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, and Brian Griffin were all him?! Sure, the show sometimes has tasteless jokes and is sometimes more liberal than I care for: it’s not for everyone and I don’t condone everything that’s in it. But Family Guy brought me a lot of joy when I need a good laugh and it still makes me laugh. Overall, it’s funny, it’s stupid, it’s even self-aware, but I love it for all those reasons.

8. The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead: Horror Drama, 6 Seasons, 2010-Present.
Oh wow yes. I remember catching up with the first three seasons and loving every minute of it. I’ve been a faithful viewer every year since. It made me a zombie fan, while a redneck with wings on his back stole my heart. The thing that I’ve always loved about The Walking Dead is that it’s more than guts and blood and zombie gore. It’s a story about people; survivors, people from all walks of life banding together to fight the dead…and the those more dangerous than the dead. The show has its lovers and haters, but I definitely love this show. It’s just one that I will always take the time to watch every night it comes out so it’s not spoiled. I’m incredibly invested in the characters who’ve survived the passing of time. I love it!

7. Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey: Historical Period Drama, 6 Seasons, 2010-2015.
Just like Castle, I’ve rewatched seasons multiple times as new seasons were released. It’s incredibly addicting and enjoyable, full of amazing dialogue and memorable, loveable, and even incredibly dislikeable characters, ever. I’m not a period geek, but this is definitely one of the best dramas I’ve ever seen hands down. While it had it’s ups and downs, its still one of the very best out there. It even had a solid final season which I was very pleased with! It’s a show my mom and I can talk about forever, analyzing the characters and their many choices. Due to it being so addicting and rewatchable, I’m sure I’ll be replaying it beginning to end for many many years to come!

6. Agatha Christie’s Poirot

Agatha Christie’s Poirot: British Mystery Drama, Original Release 1989-2013.
Yes, this show was created over 24 year span and wow it’s wonderful. Nearly every single novel and short story written by Agatha Christie about the famous detective Hercule Poirot was adapted. David Suchet as Poirot is stunning. I’ve loved this show since my early teen years! Poirot and his companions Captain Hastings, Cheif Inspector Japp, and Miss Lemon, feel like actual family members to me; uncles and aunts whom I feel safe and happy with. The show’s early seasons are hour length episodes of all sorts of crimes with some wonderful humor. As it progressives, it gets more dark as Poirot ages, and we loose some of our main cast. But it’s still wonderful, with even a good conclussion. I can’t recommend it more; I rewatch different episodes all the time because it’s a comfort to me. Poirot is my family. ❤

5. Modern Family

Modern Family: Sitcom Mockumentary, 7 Seasons, 2009-Present.
We’re in the top five; the best of the best and yet five seems too low to rank Modern Family at. My family and I have rewatched this series so many times AND WOW, IT HAS NEVER ONCE GOTTEN LESS FUNNY. Hands down on the best comedies there is. So many stereotypes turned on their head to create such real, relatable, HYSTERICAL characters. Gloria is one of my role models for womanhood, and Mitchel and Cameron are two of the best characters from TV ever. EVER. There are few character duos funnier than them. The show is relatable and loveable and DID I SAY FUNNY? Especially those first four seasons: such gold! This show will be a favorite of mine for the rest of my life because it’s never not funny, no matter how many times I watch it. And it always makes me happy. ❤

4. Sherlock

Sherlock: Crime Drama, 3 Seasons, 2010-Present.
This was my favorite show for a very long time and I still hold it near and dear to my heart. Sherlock Holmes: he’s my favorite fictional character of all time and has been for most of my life. I’m incredibly protective of him and Doyle’s original stories. So, BBC’s Sherlock is one of the few adaptations of him that I actually love; there is so much homage to the original works, and the character was adapted well to fit modern times. And Martin Freeman as John Watson is phenomenal; John is such a hugely important character to these stories (the main narrator in the books) and Martin and the writers nail him. The mysteries are fantastic, the soundtrack amazing, the humor wonderful; it’s a treat of a TV show and we’re so blessed to get a new season every two years. And as an intimate Sherlock Holmes fan, this show leaves I’m a proud and happy fan. ❤

3. Frasier

Frasier: Sitcom, 11 Seasons, 1993-2004.
You should have noticed by now how important and highly esteemed I hold my comedies. Frasier is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen:  I’ve rewatched it in its entirety three solid times and its yet to be any less funny. It’s one of the most consistently funny series’ you’ll be lucky to find, full of intelligent and witty dialogue delivered by the most loveable, hysterical cast of characters ever. Sometimes I want to just move to Seattle and become a part of the Crane family even though I don’t drink coffee and wine and listen to opera. XD Niles Crane, especially, is one of the most brilliantly enjoyable, hysterical, and loveable characters I’ve ever witnessed on my screen. I can’t recommend this show more highly! It’s brought me so much joy and it’s one of my happy places. There’s just nothing quite like an episode of Frasier! It’ll FOREVER be one of my favorite shows! ❤

2. Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones: Fantasy Drama, 6 Seasons, 2011-Present.
I FREAKING LOVE THIS SHOW, OK?! With a passion. And it’s story and characters were so worth watching around all the mature sexual content. It’s just one of those stories where you can truly fear for your favorite character’s life every episode, which I think is so rare. The twists and shocks, the fantasy, the drama, the death, the hope: Game of Thrones is so much. As a writer, it’s something I wish I could write. Every year, one of the biggest highlights for me is when a new season comes out. If I were to ever get a quote tattoo, that quote would come from the mouth of Tyrian Lannister–that should say a lot right there. As a lover of excellent storytelling, solid character development, and dragons, this will forever remain one of my most favorite stories of all time. It’s up there with epic sagas like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. I have such high hopes for the final two seasons! ❤

1. The Office.

The Office: Sitcom Mockumentary, 9 Seasons, 2005-2013.
Truly, on its own, this is a brilliantly hysterical mockumentary; it’s genuinely one of the funniest shows with one of funniest casts you’ll ever find. But this is number one for a personal reason. This show saved my sanity during one of the darkest times of my life: when I didn’t even feel safe in my own home, I discovered The Office. It gave me laughter, distraction, and amusement that saved me from depression. Of all these shows that I hold so so dearly, The Office rests, and most likely will rest forever, at the top of my list for the joy it gave and still gives me to this day. It never gets old, no matter how many times I watch (as long as I exclude those last two seasons; they don’t exist to me.) Jim and Pam and Dwight and Michael Scott will always be family to me; the whole Office will always be family to me. And without first watching The Office, I wouldn’t even have found Modern Family or my other favorite comedies like Parks and Recreation and Arrested Development and Seinfeld and Fraiser. It brought me so much laughter. There are few things in life I value more than laughter. ❤

Which of my favorite shows have you seen? Do you love them just as much as I do? (and anyone wondering WHY IS BREAKING BAD NOT HERE–that’s because I haven’t finished it yet. XD I promise I will one day.)

Happy Star Wars Day!

tumblr_l51kmiorvt1qzexpio1_500

I’m popping in quick because I can never miss blogging on this day! May the Fourth Be With You! 😉

Star Wars has meant the world to me, from helping me meet my very best friend to learning to be bold on my own, to celebrating the excellent combination that is sci-fi and fantastic story and character development (specifically referring to episodes 4-6.) Chewbacca is still my favorite character and I continue to own all the Darth Vader merchandise in my family. XD While I wasn’t crazy about the new film, I’ll still always love and value what the original trilogy gave me! ❤

So, Happy Star Wars Day to all my geeky friends! ❤
