The Marvel Heroes Movie Tag

Hamlette from Hamlette’s Soliloquy tagged me just the other day to do her very own Marvel Heroes Movie Tag, where we match a movie to marvel hero! Without further ado let’s just jump in!

Captain America: Name a movie with a “fish out of water” theme. One of my top ten favorites, Hot Fuzz! Highly ambitious London cop transferred to a small sleepy village in the countryside…but how sleepy is it really?

Thor: Name a movie about learning to use power for the good of others. Kiki’s Delivery Service. A young witch coming to age strikes out on her own with the purpose of growing into her powers and using them responsibly living in a civilian world.

Iron Man: Name a movie about an inventor.  For some reason, I’m scrambling to think of a film, so I’m just gonna say A Beautiful Mind, which is about a brilliant mathematician. Great film with a great soundtrack.

Incredible Hulk: Name a movie with a main character who has two sides to them.  Clue, for absolutely every single character in the entire thing. Its a masterpiece. XD

Hawkeye: Name a movie that involves archery. Hamelette already said The Many Adventures of Robin Hood, which is the best and most ultimate Robin Hood movie ever! But for the sake of something new, let’s say The Hunger Games.

Black Widow: Name a movie about spies. Spy with Melissa McCarthy. I’m sorry, but this movie actually really made me laugh! McCarthy is a great comedian!

Black Panther: Name a movie about royalty.  Ben-Hur. The story of a royal Jewish family’s fall but also ultimate redemption. Honestly, its one of the best epics ever told on the big screen ever.

Vision: Name a movie involving androids or robots.  The Iron Giant! Finally got around to seeing that movie and wow! Way better than expected! I can see why it is so highly thought of. Real Steel and The Terminator and Transformers could also go with this genre.

Spider-man: Name a movie about teens. Say Anything. Big favorite of mine because the two main teenagers depicted in this film actually feel real, with a depth of purpose and emotion to them that I just loved.

Ant-Man: Name a movie about thieves.  Inception. Heck yes. Is there anything more whacky than stealing through shared dreaming?! Now You See Me and Die Hard also come to mind.

Scarlet Witch: Name a movie with powerful female character.  Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi because PRINCESS LEIA. IS. THE. GIRL. Smart, quick-thinking, strong, diplomatic: one of the most powerful female characters ever.

Dr. Strange: Name a movie where a character learns to be a better person. The one that comes to mine is John Wayne’s Rio Bravo, my favorite western. Character Dude, played Dean Martin, follows an entire path of facing his problem with drink and learning how to take control over it and becoming a man again. Love that movie so much!

Falcon: Name a movie with a great sidekick. My Neighbor Totoro, because how is there any sidekick better than Totoro himself? Also, that movie makes me cry every time.

Loki: Name a movie with an antagonist/villain who steals the show.  Let’s say Toy Story, where Woody basically plays the villain but completely steals the show as the main character!

Agent Coulson: Name a movie where an ordinary character faces an extraordinary situation.  Shaun of the Dead! Shaun’s mundane world is slowly interrupted by the zombie apocalypse, and when he at last notices, he decides to take it all on to go rescue his mum and girlfriend. One of my favorite movies ever.

Peter Quill: Name a movie with a character who is more than they appear to be.  Finding Nemo. This is referring to BOTH Nemo and Marlin!

Gamora: Name a movie with a character who changes allegiances. Thelma and Louise; we watch Thelma change from being shackled to toxicity and abuse to choosing her own form of personal freedom and herself. Freaking love it.

Drax: Name a movie with a physically powerful character.  Rocky, of course!! Of course I love Rocky for so much more than his physique, but dang, he’s awesomely strong. Or, for the fun of it, we can also say the movie Rambo First Blood for this one as well.

Groot: Name a movie with a character who doesn’t talk much. Mad Max: Fury Road. Max says very very little the whole movie or something like that? Legit great facial/grunt acting from Tom Hardy in that film, he didn’t need to speak a whole movie to make us love his Max. ❤

Rocket: Name a movie with a talking animal.  It was only for like 2 minutes, but there’s a talking animal in Men In Black–first film I thought of. XD

2016 Bucket List Check-In

On January 1st I don’t make resolutions; resolving to change a behavior is fine but usually, that’s ineffective to me personally. However: I do make a bucket list: I figure that listing actions for myself might give me better luck in improving throughout the new year. But I don’t follow it strictly, as life tends to change and I want my goals to be able to adapt or change with it. “They’re more guidelines than rules” sorta thing here. XD

It’s nearly my 22nd birthday, and half the year is over. As I become contemplative over another kind of year gone, this would be a great time to revisit the  year’s list and see how I’ve done so far!

Investigate more video game and anime soundtracks for writing. Have done this, want to keep doing this! Favorite anime track (below) and favorite game track discovered so far.

Officially meet my best friend in person. Did it. Best ten days of the year (maybe my whole life) as of yet. Just ugh, the feels and fun we had. I miss you so much, James! (Am writing another post on this BECAUSE SO MUCH HAPPINESS!)

Learn the rules of the road. DID IT. I didn’t want to write “get drivers permit” for fear of jinxing myself (send me help) but it worked. I’ve also gotten about 25 minutes of practice in already. Please pray I learn smoothly and easily and that the right vehicle is provided just when I need it.

Take better care of myself emotionally and physically. Am learning to do this and will continue to learn and practice. Surrounding myself with supportive people has helped; there’s nothing quite like seeing yourself from someone else’s perspective and realizing you’re worth so much. ❤

Finish reading and underlining my Creative Writing books. Haven’t attempted this yet. I have set books out in the open where I can see them, though. Just need to actually pick them up and read them. XD

Spend money consciously. Doing better at this, need to get even better quickly, especially as I begin job hunting.

Find unique ways to express my personal creative spirit and needs. I’m going to leave this open, as I want to do this much more. So far, I’ve invested into some excellent temporary tattoo sets; I absolutely love artistic temporary body art, especially on my feet. And I’m getting back into crocheting by learning new stitches. But I want to express myself even more!!! I’m hoping to Booktrack more this year, and would love to just find brand new ways to be me.

Continue enjoying anime and anime blogging. I’m only just returning to aniblogging lately after a two-month break, so I’m leaving this open too. I’m hoping the new Summer Season will be more memorable than the last two seasons; so far its a promising one!

Make a YouTube playlist of empowering/humanizing songs to memorize. This is half done. I’ve made one, I just need to listen to it more often.

Play the piano more consistently again. Need to do this more too. I’ve recently found more music that I want to learn, however, so I’m hoping that will help. Specifically Summer (below) and Fire by Brian Crain (so I can expand my memorized collection of his songs: I can play Rain, Wind, and Song of Sienna by heart with my eyes closed.)

Continue maintaining online relationships and build new ones at college. This one I’m managing (I made one nice friend last semester!) but it is changing slightly since I’m taking a year off from college to start job hunting. But hopefully, I will be able to build some nice relationships where ever I work!

Write only for me. I actually feel like I’m doing pretty good on this one! This has interpreted as also being “write only when I wish” as well, and I’ve done that as well; I only blog when I feel like saying something and I’m continuing to work at saying what I truly think and feel.

Re-blog my updated 100 Favorite Movies series. Haven’t done this yet, mainly because I’M STILL TRYING TO RANK THEM ALL. So hard! But I’ll do it eventually!

And I'm passing it down to the next generation!:

Clean out my room of useless junk during my next furniture arrangement ritual. Haven’t rearranged my room this year yet, but I’ll remember to do this the next time I do.

Decide on a college major. This I’ve done, kinda. I know I’ll probably be getting an Associates of Arts Degree in Communication, whenever that happens. But that’s about all right now. XD I’ll work on that.

Listen more when others speak, but speak up more for the authentic me.

This one I’m going to leave open too because it’s something one should never stop doing. I do believe I’ve gotten better at this the past year and that makes me happy. ❤

Currently reading: shame on me, nothing at the moment. I have two books and a manga from the library sitting beside my bed. But I’ve started none of them.

Currently writing: blog posts (specifically a post about The Force Awakens.) I fell out of the habit of blogging and I’m trying to begin more drafts now. I’m revisiting some old novel drafts as well but I haven’t actually written more for them.

Currently watching: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. After putting it on hold for basically a year, I’m going to finish that show soon! I’m also following the Winter seasonal anime shows too, like ErasedShouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, KonoSuba, Grimgar of Fantasy and AshMyriad Colors Phantom World, Gate, and Osomatsu-san. And all the shorts. XD

Currently obsessed with: music…but more specifically, learning about Michael Jackson.  ‘Cause I knew crap about his music. XD After accidentally becoming obsessed with Smooth Criminal last week, I started exploring for more. In turn that led me to reading Wikipedia and watching interviews and his super bowl performance.
I do this every so often: I enjoy learning about parts of pop culture I was completely ignorant about before. It’s fun, especially for musicians who create music I actually like. 😀

Currently tired: from painting the downstairs guest bathroom. While I always like painting, I forget how heavy the paint rollers get after a while. XD  But the bathroom is now a sunshine-y yellow instead of the previous deep blackish-blue! ❤

Currently excited: that I bought my plane ticket for my trip to Georgia this summer! That was actually last week, but I’m still excited! Although the reality of the visit has honestly not quite sunk in yet for me or my best friend. XD

Currently failing: well, actually, I feel pretty good about myself today. I’m not majorly sucking at anything for now. XD I’m still doing good biking to school, I’m keeping on top of my laundry piles and my room, and getting math homework done on time. So yay for me!

Currently scaring myself with: the idea of using the bus to get myself down to the big mall. XD I still haven’t gone on any big trips that’s off my normal school bus route yet. The idea is scary, but I totally need to visit the mall for errands and to try to see Deadpool if I can. Maybe I’ll do that this month. XD

Currently wishing: that I could rearrange my room. But alas, I don’t want to spare the extra time or energy. So for now I’m just wishing. LOL XD

Currently praying: for my sister to continue to do be excellent in the military. So proud of her! ❤

Beautiful People: Writerly Resolutions and Goals

Last month they had questions for writers on their resolutions for the new year! Considering I’m taking a very different approach to my writing this year than I did last year, I thought I’d join in and attempt to pin down my thoughts for 2016 and my fictional writing!

What were your writing achievements last year?

They were nothing that I originally wanted, at least in terms of “finishing first drafts and publishing”, but I still broke a wall last year that I’m happy a bout

I wrote completely for myself last summer. I was hit by a strange form of inspiration, for the continuation for an old saga that’d I’d been stuck on for years. After being scared of following that character route due its nontraditional elements, I decided to challenge myself to break the walls in my head and write completely for myself. I didn’t tell anyone but my sister about it, for the entire summer, and wrote completely for me.

Honestly, it was the best thing to happen to me as a writer last year…learning to write for myself. I wrote like I was mad (I felt mad too,) and I got to know my longtime favorite characters like I never had been able to, just by being experimental and brave! So, I consider that the best achievement of 2015 when it comes to my writing.

Tell us about your top priority writing project for this year?

I have decided to do something different this year and not make any one book a top priority project. I did that last year and when I realized I needed to do something different, I almost felt guilty for changing my goal. I want to avoid that feeling this year. I’d like to give myself a more open path. I want to follow my heart and the words in my head without feeling the need to “reach a goal.” For one year, we’ll see how that works.

List 5 areas you’d like to work the hardest to improve this year.

I have actually only 1 area I want to work on this year, and its to stop stopping at the “boundaries” in my mind. Basically, to grow on what I learned last year. I learned last year that experimenting for myself leads to amazing breakthroughs, so this year I want to stop holding back on things I want to write. Especially when it’s completely personal anyway. I want to give myself permission to freely express what I need and thinkig in my fictional writing. I hope to bring that into what I blog as well!

Are you participating in any writing challenges?

Noooooo, sadly. I’d love to think I could start writing every single day, but I won’t even pretend that I could give that an honest go right now. XD But since I took this past NaNoWriMo off, I would love to do it this year for sure! Every other year seems to work best for me when it comes to NaNoWriMo. XD

What’s your critique partner/beta reader situation like and do you have plans to expand this year?

While I let my best friend and my sister read things when they can before I publish them, I currently don’t have anything else set up at the moment. I don’t have anything in particular that I need beta readers for, since I’m focusing on a lot of short stories at the moment. XD But…then again. I always need help with those too. I over think my wording too much. XD

Do you have plans to read any writer-related books this year? Or are there specific books you want to read for research?

Last year I bought several writing books cheap and I’d love to put a dent in them! I would like to read the book “Writer with a Day Job” and really use my copies of “The Pocket Muse” and it’s sequel (excellent books for inspiration!) “The Little Red Writing Book” is slim, looks extremely promising and should be easy to read as well!

Pick one character you want to get to know better, and how are you going to achieve this?

If I had to get to know a character better this year, it would be my villain-turned-anti-hero, Kyle. I created Kyle when I was fourteen and for years he’s remained the bland, two-dimensional baddie whom I didn’t understand personally or know how to use properly. But last year when I got to know my lead hero better, I also realized that as Kyle’s role expanded, I began to understand why he felt the way he did. After seven years, we finally began to click.

So, if I had to get to know one character better this year, it would be him. He’s the angry, grieving, screaming sound in my head that’s slowly mellowing and releasing and changing when I reflect on him. I want to get to know him even better!

Do you plan to edit or query, and what’s your plan of attack?

Oh no, I can’t make any serious promises for that this year, like I did last year. I’m going to just write and follow my gut this year. XD

Toni Morrison once said, “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”  What are the books that you want to see more of, and what “holes” do you think need filling in the literary world?

I desperately wish there were more books that followed a guy and girl friendship that didn’t have any real romantic tension or didn’t develop into romance. I’m determined to write stories like this myself.  It just would be refreshing! Also you then completely bypass all those annoying love triangles. XD

What do you hope to have achieved by the end of 2016?

I hope to have achieved a stronger sense of freedom in my writing, to be less terrified of exploring my own consciousness and writing inspirations. Right now, I think the most I want to ask of myself is to become a better writer than the writer that I am in this moment. Continuing self-improvement, at my pace and in my way, will be all that I’ll demand of myself this year.

And quite honestly, that's a tall order all on its own anyway.
